Back in Business

It has been a month since we last blogged,
What with a new baby and change of jobs.
Bibs changing and work non-stop,
Took us away from our blog.

But precious moments and funny thoughts
We would still like to have record,
For it is with this blog,
That we have our own growth logged.

Your interest and comments are all
That keep this blog going strong
So please keep reading our blog
And drop us a line or four.

Lack of posts

As noticed by our eager keen eye reader, there's been a dearth of posts in the last week, not even a musical wednesday.

This is because both the adult meowmeows in the MMF have started new jobs this week and the learning curves are killing them. I'm trying hard to learn powerpoint and excel, while lovebell is trying hard to learn the new methodologies she uses at her new job.

XiaoPong is growing strong, and drinking lots of milk.

So continue to wish us good luck and support us through your encouragements, we really appreciate the support you guys have given us, well, at least me.

Til next time, adios!

The Price of Procrastination

Though I have been trying to keep up with my assigned readings, I must confess that I have not been very diligent in reviewing the readings after class and doing my revision.

This is my first open-book examination. All who have taken open-book examinations have told me that this is the worst kind of examination. When it is an open-book exam, more often than not, the examiner will not ask questions in which you can use the materials directly from the books.

However, as my memory is really not what it used to be (I have difficulty completing my sentences and thoughts nowadays), I am actually taking comfort in being able to bring my materials in.

I am now rushing against time to finish making my notes (you know, those things that I should have done during term time!) and re-reading my assigned readings to get fresh perspectives or deeper understanding in order to prepare for the examination.

I have 11 sets of readings to plough through and thus far, I have only completed 2 sets. I have two more days to finish the remaining 9 sets and Friday morning to do a final consolidation. Sigh.

Somehow, I can't help but feel that I should have been better prepared for this exam as afterall, I do have almost 4 weeks to prepare for the examination after the submission of my assignment. However, going back to school and doing SEM, thinking through department stuff, writing SOWs (which I barely started!!!) and catching up on admin work simply sapped my energy and took my concentration and focus away.

Excuses, excuses, I hear you say and probably they are.

I just can't wait for Friday to be over yet I wish it would not come so soon so that I can prepare more.

Anyone cares to join the mmf for dinner and drinks on Friday night to celebrate the end of my examination and doppy's reservist stint? :)

The Meowmeow Family Writes

clipped from www.extremely.com
David Bader - 100 Great Books in Haiku

A hilarious crash course in literature –
17 syllables at a time!

Why spend weeks slogging through The Iliad when you can just read the haiku?
In the sixteenth century, Zen monks in Japan developed the haiku, an unrhymed poem consisting of 17 syllables arranged in three lines of five, seven and five syllables respectively. Now, in One Hundred Great Books in Haiku, published by Viking/Penguin, David Bader has applied this ancient poetic form to the classics. From Homer to Milton to Lao Tzu, the great books are finally within reach of even the shortest attention spans. Avoid eyestrain and show off your literary prowess at cocktail parties! It's the perfect gift for today's busy reader.
I picked out this book from one of Border's shelves. I was tickled pink by the haiku on Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift:

Thus I was first great,
then small, and much vexed to learn
that size does matter.

And since doppy had a 25% discount voucher, he bought the book for me.

We just spent the last 20min or so in bed reading the book together and laughing at how insightful and succinct the haikus were. When Homer's Iliad can be told in three lines, you will be kinda of bemused that Bader could summarise what you took a couple of months to plough through into a few seconds' read.

Doppy was most inspired by this book and decided to start a blog for us to start writing haikus to reflect our Singaporean experience. It is our hope that one day, our works will be good enough to be published.

In the meantime, do pop by when you are free and let us have your comments. Remember to bookmark it or subscribe to its feeds along with this blog.

Enjoy! :)

The MeowMeow Family is Going to Be Separated Again!

Doppy just told me that he had a staff retreat next week from Thursday to Friday at Sentosa and he would not be home till Friday.

I then informed him that I got an internal training camp next week from Friday to Sunday and it was to be a residential camp no less.

So, this translates into the two of us missing each other from next Thursday onwards and the next time we would see each other would only be on Sunday. By then, I should be dog-tired and Monday would be a working day for the both of us again.

You ask, "Isn't it the term holidays round the corner?"

Indeed it is. However, I have a full day training on Monday, Thursday and Friday of the holiday week. Tentatively, my Wednesday and Thursday still looks free.

So if you are looking to date the mmf out, do refer to this post for more updates.

Going into Hibernation

The mmf is going into hibernation wef today.

Doppy's got his paper to write, slides to prepare, and CFA notes to study. I've got markings to clear, readings to do and tons of admin stuff to do.

We are putting our social life on hold for the time being after we clear the remaining engagements that are on our calendar.

However, we do still need to take our meals so if you are looking for dinner kakis, I believe we should still be able to spare you an hour or so of our busy, hectic lives.

Do avoid tempting us with invitations or social engagements as we are both procrastinators at heart and there is really nothing we would love to do more than to spend our time with our beloved friends and having fun. We definitely do not have the will-power to reject fun social dates.

It is thus adieu our dear friends till we both tide through these crazy few months (or whenever we get sick of work and decide to initiate a social gathering! :O)
