Finally, I got around to calling the numbers that were given to me by doppy's and my colleagues respectively.
Since I have no expectations except that the price range should be about $1,800, I settled for the first lady who picked up my call and is available next April.
She's a Malaysian lady and sounds nice enough over the phone. I asked if she would mind teaching my maid and me some stuff about looking after babies and she was accommodating enough.
So far, she has requested for the following:
1. 2 red-packets, 1 when she first come and one when she leaves (for auspicious reasons she says; doppy thinks the first is to blackmail us and the second is to get more out from us)
2. a room for her and xiao-pong (that would mean I need to ask my maid to sleep in the study on a mattress)
3. pay a deposit of $200 (I must remember this so that I don't goondu-goondu and pay her another the full sum at the end of the confinement month)
4. she would finish her job on a Saturday (I have no idea what that means!)
I have absolutely no experience with this and I think I sounded like a complete novice over the phone.
Now I need to come up with a list of questions for doppy ask his nice colleague so that I would know what I need to tell her when we meet up for the first time to tie down details.
